How to Throw the Ultimate Canada Day Party!!

This year, our amazing country is celebrating its 149th birthday! That means it’s time to start preparing for an epic Canada Day Party—it’s pretty much our patriotic duty! Check out my fun ideas to take your Canada Day bash to the next level. See below for tips, plus some decor and food recommendations.

DECOR

Red and white is great but look for things that go beyond colour. Think of symbols that celebrate our home and native land.

All of these items are part of the Canadiana décor line, exclusively at Walmart.

Something as simple as themed trays work great. They’re easy to carry, they keep things organized and together in one place and it uses the Canadiana theme.

Also, think outside the box. Use a colourful, fun themed blanket as my tablecloth. The pattern will help hide spills, your guests will love how creative and how festive it is with these iconic Canadian symbols.

OUTDOOR PARTIES

You want your guests to be comfortable so provide them with plenty of seating options.

These chairs and pillows are perfect to use outdoors and they scream “Canada.” They invoke a bit of the cottage country feel, especially when you pair them with these adorable faux wood / fabric log ottomans.

Once it gets dark, shine a little ambient light on your guests using Maple Leaf marquee signs on the table. They’re a great way to welcome your guests. They’re patriotic and they serve a function.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES

One of the biggest mistakes people make when hosting is hosting too much. You forget to have fun!

Rather than run back and forth the entire time getting food and drinks for your guests, get a giant galvanized tub or Canadian-themed ice buckets. That way, you can fill them with ice and drinks and let your guests help themselves. It adds a casual, fun vibe to your party and guests will be happy that they don’t have to wait for refills.

The other hassle usually comes from the cutlery. People often want to use disposable cutlery because it’s easier to clean up but they’re light so they can easily blow away and cause a bigger mess than when you started. Use Canada Day-themed napkins, tie them with a piece of raffia and place them in these rustic mugs.

This Canadiana chalkboard is so versatile. You can use it for messaging/displays but here it's used as a charcuterie or cheese board. You can write the name of the cheeses directly onto the board so you don’t have to worry about little pick signs.

Food to serve:

Nothing is more nostalgic than s'mores! It’s a treat for everyone, young and old. All you do is open Walmart’s Great Value Maple Cookies and stuff them with roasted marshmallows. Voila! Super easy and it’s a nice Canadian twist on the classic treat.

Drinks to serve:

Toast Canada’s birthday using lemonade with strawberry ice cubes. It’s refreshing and easy to make and best of all, it’s a drink that the whole family can enjoy. Blend the strawberries in a blender with a bit of simple syrup. You can make the lemonade a bit watery or more tart. As the ice cubes melt, the lemonade will become sweeter.

ACTIVITIES

You’ll definitely want to capture the moment because it’s not everyday that you get to have all of the people you love in one place. Have fun Canada Day-themed props on hand for your Canada Day seflies! These cute hats, headbands and glasses will make memorable pictures

Try Walmart’s Canada Day flag craft: take a plain white t-shirt, or a plain canvas, and paint two red lines on either side. Then pour red paint into a plate, place your hand in the paint, and then put your painted hand print in between the two red lines. Everyone’s maple leaf will be unique but everyone’s craft will resemble the Canada flag!

Bubbles! Everyone loves bubbles. There’s something magical about them that fascinates all of us. This apparatus creates a bubble tornado. Then, with this juggle bubble glove, you can catch and bounce bubbles in your hand.

Giant sidewalk chalk is fun and it’s not permanent. You can send your kids off and let them draw all over the sidewalk, patio, walkway, fence, anywhere they want! It’s all washable.

Thanks for having me ladies!!! Always a blast
